What to check before buying a hearing aid

A hearing aid — often called an "ear device" — is a decision you'll live with for years. The eight points below cover the questions to ask before you buy.

An audiogram, audiometry headphones and a pen on a desk
1

Measure first, then choose a device

You can't know which device suits you without an audiogram.

  • The power you need depends on your loss's degree and shape ; the same degree of loss can call for a different device in two different people.
  • Don't buy from a place that doesn't test first. At our branches, the hearing test is free, takes 20–30 minutes, and needs no appointment.

Don't decide without trying the device

A device that sounds fine in a quiet room can struggle in a crowd.

  • The real test is real life: the street, the TV, the phone, the family table.
  • You can try it before buying. We agree on the trial's length and terms together at the branch before you start.

Is the ear mould custom-made for you?

No matter how good the device is, the result is poor if the mould is wrong.

  • A badly fitting mould whistles, leaks sound, and makes the device uncomfortable to wear.
  • Ask where the mould is made. We make it in our own lab ; there's no waiting on shipping, it's ready within two days at most.

Ask about your SGK entitlement

With an ENT report and prescription, you may be able to benefit from SGK support.

  • The contribution amount varies by age group and employment/retirement status.
  • All our branches work with SGK, and the contribution is deducted from your invoice instantly — you don't pay it all upfront and claim it back later. Amounts are on our SGK support page.

Understand what determines the price

A hearing aid isn't an off-the-shelf product; there's no single list price.

  • The amount varies by the degree of loss, the device's technology level and the mould.
  • Ask in writing what the price covers: are fitting sessions, the mould, check-ups and warranty included? On our price page we've spelled it out point by point.

Who looks after you after you buy?

It doesn't end when you buy the device.

  • You'll need adjustments a few times in the first months; after that, filter changes, mould renewal and servicing when something goes wrong.
  • It matters that where you buy from is near you and has technical service. In Ankara and Istanbul, we have 14 branches ; our care and help centre pages are also open.

Are they an authorised dealer?

An authorised dealer is one with access to the manufacturer's software and spare parts.

  • A device bought from an unauthorised source can run into problems with settings and warranty.
  • We're an authorised dealer for ReSound, Widex, Rexton and Signia. Our devices come with a 2-year warranty.

Don't be rushed

This is a health decision, not a promotion.

  • Pressure lines like "today only" or "last day" have no place in selling hearing aids.
  • You can take the amount away and think it over. There's no obligation to buy with us; that's exactly why the test and trial exist.
In short

If you don't know which type to choose

We've compared the differences between behind-the-ear, receiver-in-canal, in-the-ear and invisible types, and who each suits, on our device types page. If you're unsure, seeing the types side by side at a branch takes five minutes.

Let's start by measuring how much you hear

The free hearing test takes 20–30 minutes, no appointment needed. We go over the result together in the same session.
